Kansas City, MO – The Kansas City Chiefs organization is mourning the loss of one of their own after a devastating car crash claimed the life of key player, Juan Thornhill.
According to reports, Thornhill, a 27-year-old safety, was involved in a fatal car accident on his way home from a team practice session. The crash occurred on Interstate 435, just outside of Kansas City, at approximately 11:15 PM last night.
“We are shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of Juan Thornhill,” said Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid. “Juan was an outstanding young man and a valued member of our team. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
Thornhill, a second-round draft pick in 2019, had become an integral part of the Chiefs’ secondary. He had started in several games this season and had recorded 32 tackles, including 2 interceptions.
The Chiefs organization has released a statement confirming Thornhill’s passing and offering support to his family.
“The Chiefs family is deeply saddened by the loss of Juan Thornhill,” the statement read. “We will do everything in our power to support Juan’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
The team has also announced that they will hold a memorial service for Thornhill at Arrowhead Stadium on Friday at 2 PM.
